Residential Care Facilities (also known as board and care homes, assisted living facilities, homes for the elderly) are licensed by the Department of Social Services to provide a non-medical level of care to elderly residents 60 years old and older.  Facility size may vary from a small 6-bed "home" to over 300-bed multi-story units.  Medicare and Medicaid do not provide payment toward the care of residents.  Some residents may qualify for SSI benefits (Social Security Supplemental Income) which contributes to their monthly income and assists them in paying the state assigned "rent rate."  Otherwise, most of our residents pay through private funds.

Direct care staff are trained in first aid procedures and continue to attend in-services in the care and supervision of the elderly.  At this point, we are not required by law to employ licensed staff.  However, more and more facilities are hiring licensed vocational nurses to supervise and dispense medication, as regulations are becoming very stringent in this area.  Dietary staff follow menus designed and developed by a registered dietitian.  Modified or special diets are also provided as ordered by residents' physicians.  The facility employs an administrator trained and licensed by the Department of Social Services to oversee the daily operation of the facility.

Pleasant Care currently has 2 residential facilities in Northern California.  Emmanuel Residential of Millbrae, licensed for 49 residents, is located in Millbrae adjacent to Emmanuel Convalescent Hospital.  Arbor Place Residential, licensed for 76 residents, is located in Lodi adjacent to Arbor Convalescent Hospital.

In Southern California, Pleasant Care has another 2 assisted living facilities.  Pleasant Care Assisted Living in Corona, licensed for 125 residents, is located in Corona adjacent to Pleasant Care Convalescent of Corona.  Emmanuel Manor, licensed for 50 residents, is located in Glendora adjacent to Emmanuel Health Care in Glendora.
